Golding Homes has welcomed the first residents to its new affordable rent housing development in Kent, having completed the homes over the summer after a short delay due to COVID-19.
The 93 new homes on Perry Court, Faversham, have been delivered by Golding Homes in partnership with Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes, and all are designated affordable rent.
The remaining homes, which are due for completion by Spring 2022, include 65 for affordable rent and 28 for sale under the shared ownership scheme.
“Continuing to build new homes was a challenge during the lockdown period,” said Tom Casey, director of Development and Sales for Golding Homes.
“But we are really happy to be back on track, and helping people like Sascha, moving into a home of her own for the first time, is really satisfying.”
Sascha’s story
In July, Sascha became one of the first tenants to move into the one of the new homes.
Before moving to Perry Court, she was living in Sittingbourne at a foster placement with her carers and two other people.
She was aware that when she turned 21 later this year the support she was receiving would stop and she would need to find a new place to live.
At the beginning of the year Sascha began to look for a new home, and with the help of her social worker, she found a new-build home for affordable rent with Golding Homes and successfully applied through Kent Homechoice.
Sascha was told she would be moving into her new house in March, but then found out that her moving-in date would be postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and ensuing lockdown.
After receiving a call from Golding Homes in June confirming that the new homes were back on track, she was finally able to move in the following month.
“It was a big relief to finally get the keys three weeks ago,” explained Sascha.
“I love it, I love the space. I love having my own place and being able to do what I want to, not being told what to do.”
Golding Homes says Sascha’s new home has given her the freedom and independence she craved.
She is able to have a safe home and build a life for herself – and as a newly qualified hairdresser, she is busy catching up on all those post-lockdown haircuts.
