Alpha Living has announced the appointment of Claire Taylor as its new chair.
Taylor is replacing Geoff Greenwood, who has stepped down from the role having successfully guided the organisation for the past six years.
Taylor previously joined the board of Alpha Living as a non-executive director in January 2019.
She has had a distinguished career working within the education sector across the UK for the past 30 years, and Alpha Living says many of her senior roles focused on leadership and governance making her ideally suited to her new role.
Taylor is currently deputy vice chancellor and Professor of Education at Wrexham Glyndwr University and is involved in several key networks focused on addressing issues of social inequality.
Alpha Living says she shares the organisation’s passion for ensuring the health and wellbeing of customers and staff and a commitment to working via collaboration and partnerships.
Commenting on her appointment, Taylor said: “Alpha is uniquely placed to build homes that meet the needs of the older population, and I look forward to working with the board and staff team to provide safe and secure housing for all our residents.
“I am pleased to have been appointed as the chair of Alpha Living at a time when our first extra-care development is nearing completion.
“This development provides independent living in modern self-contained apartments for people over the age of 55, but with the reassurance of on-site care and support available 24 hours a day if needed.”
Graeme Foster, chief executive of Alpha Living, said: “I am delighted to have the opportunity to work with Claire – I know she will be invaluable in helping to guide our future housing provision and first class resident services.
“I would also like to pay tribute to the dedication of the retiring chair, Geoff Greenwood, who has always ensured that the organisation puts residents at the heart of all it does.”
Alpha Living provides housing and sensitive support services for older people, with around 860 apartments across 11 local authorities in the north of England.
