Cobalt Housing has awarded The Casey Group Ltd its first new-build contract since being demerged in 2017.
The contract will see the construction of 57 new homes on Cobalt Housing’s Altbridge Park development in Liverpool.
The Altbridge Park site sits on vacant land adjacent to the East Lancashire Road in North Liverpool, which previously housed three 15 storey blocks of flats, and has been vacant for a number of years.
The development will see a mix of two- and three-bed family homes and one and two-bed apartments, which Cobalt says complements its existing and larger houses at the adjoining Stonedale Estate.
In total, the development includes:
- 24 x one- and two-bed apartments
- 20 x two-bed houses
- 12 x three-bed houses
- 1 x four-bed adapted property
Work is expected to begin onsite in early December, and it is anticipated that residents will move into the new homes in early 2022.
Dave Woods, director of operations at Cobalt Housing, said: “The appointment of The Casey Group Ltd marks the start of our ambitious development programme, which will see much needed new homes built across our communities.
“This is an exciting milestone for Cobalt and is the first of many projects we plan to deliver over the next few years – and highlights Cobalt’s continued commitment to invest across our local communities.”
Jay Siadankay, head of development at Cobalt Housing, said: “It’s such an exciting time for Cobalt, having anticipated the delivery of this scheme for some time.
“To finally appoint a contractor in The Casey Group Ltd – who are very experienced in the successful and timely delivery of developments of this nature, size, and scale – is the best start we can have to producing more quality affordable homes in our local communities.”
Alan Taylor, Operations Director at The Casey Group, said: “Casey are delighted to have been appointed to the first scheme of the new framework.
“We are excited to commence working in partnership with Cobalt Housing to deliver a high-quality scheme for their residents.
“Cobalt’s mission to invest in local communities aligns itself with our commitment to improve lives for local people.”
Altbridge Park is the first development designed and delivered by Cobalt Housing since demerger from former parent company Symphony Housing Group (now Onward).
Cobalt’s growth ambition includes the delivery of 500 new homes by 2023, with commitment to “building the right homes in the right places”.
As part of this procurement process, Cobalt has appointed six contractors (including The Casey Group Ltd) to the organisations Development Framework.
Cobalt says the creation of the framework will support the delivery of further development projects individually valued up to £9m across Croxteth, Norris Green, and Fazakerley over the next four years.
The list of tenderers now on Cobalt’s Framework, include: Anwyl Partnerships, Housing Maintenance Solutions Ltd, M&Y Maintenance & Construction Ltd, Penny Lane Builders, R.P. Tyson Construction Ltd, and The Casey Group Ltd.
Dave Woods said: “Cobalt are delighted to appoint such an experienced group of contractors to our new framework.
“All have strong links to the north west, as well as a keen focus on social value and supporting local communities.
“I’m really looking forward to delivering some great development and regeneration projects across our communities using our new framework partners over the coming years.”
