Fairhive is expanding its initiatives promoting equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) beyond its workforce to actively engage residents.
This move comes in response to a request from the Resident Forum, further emphasising Fairhive’s commitment to fostering an inclusive community.
The inspiration for this expansion emerged during a presentation made by assistant director of People, John Wallbank FCIPD, at the monthly Resident Forum earlier this year.
During the session John spoke passionately about the importance of EDI to Fairhive, and how they engage employees through the various activities such as the Inclusion Network.
Intrigued by these initiatives, the Resident Forum expressed a keen interest in extending these opportunities to the wider resident community.
In response to this request, Fairhive partnered with the Alzheimer’s Society to run a Dementia Awareness session open to all residents.
The interactive session discussed how people can support neighbours, friends and relatives, highlighted how dementia affects a person and how we can all make a difference, from being more patient in a shop queue to campaigning for change.
Having recently achieved a top ranking Disability Confident Leader status creating an inclusive space for learning and engagement is something Fairhive is incredibly proud of and excited to offer to residents.
The first session, held recently, witnessed a good turnout with 16 residents actively participating.
This positive response highlights the genuine interest and eagerness within the Fairhive community to embrace EDI principles and has opened up the opportunity to raise awareness and provide valuable learning opportunities to all residents.
The team are already exploring ideas for future sessions, demonstrating Fairhive’s dedication to foster an inclusive environment for our community.
John Wallbank, assistant director of People, commented: “As a Disability Confident Leader in Buckinghamshire, we are committed to raising awareness about key disability topics such as Dementia Awareness.
“I would like to thank the Alzheimer’s Society for their support in providing fantastic training for both our employees and our residents.”
Two of the residents contacted Fairhive to express their thanks. They said: “Thank you so much for arranging this mornings Dementia Awareness workshop. It was very informative and has wetted my appetite for learning more!”
Gill, Fairhive resident another resident Michael added: “Fairhive encourage residents to get involved and do a lot for the community.”
