Blackpool Council has approved proposals to build an additional 67 affordable homes to complete the West site of its flagship Foxhall Village development.
The plans to build a mix of two-, three-, and four-bed homes on Rigby Road were developed by Great Places Housing Group in consultation with Blackpool Council and set out to complete the remaining phases of Foxhall Village after the original developers went into administration.
Marcus Worthington & Co. went into administration in 2019, leading to work on the development stalling.
Blackpool Council says it is committed to ensuring the remainder of the West site, either side of Blundell Street, is built to provide the new homes as originally planned.
Homes England remains engaged with discussions, according to Great Places.
The council is working with Great Places, under an exclusivity agreement, to enable solutions to be found to the complexities of delivering the development.
While the council has yet to make a decision on the delivery approach, it is hoped that this will lead to a new agreement between the council and Great Places to complete the development on the West site.
Foxhall Village: ‘A complex and difficult site’
Commenting on the planning approval for the West site development, Helen Spencer, executive director of Growth at Great Places, said: “Foxhall Village is one of the projects that we are most proud to have been involved with, and we’re delighted that our proposals have been approved.
“This will not only secure the completion of the West site, but also provide an additional 67 much-needed affordable homes in the local area.”
She added: “As a long-term owner and investor in Foxhall Village, we have worked with the council to overcome a huge array challenges to deliver what is a complex and difficult site but of key importance to the town.
“Great Places already owns 79 homes at Foxhall Village and alongside the council and we are committed to ensuring the long-term success of Foxhall Village as a thriving local community.
“The complexities of getting the project to this stage have been extremely challenging and we would like to acknowledge the support of the council and our consultants in developing these proposals to complete the final phase of this landmark development.”
Great Places Housing Group is a not-for-profit organisation that owns 25,000 affordable homes in more than 30 local authority areas across the north-west of England and South Yorkshire.
