Great Places Housing Association has submitted planning proposals to build an additional 67 affordable homes to complete the West site of Blackpool Council’s flagship Foxhall Village development located on Rigby Road.
The plans to build a mix of two-, three-, and four-bed homes have been developed in consultation with Blackpool Council, working in partnership with Great Places to seek to complete the remaining phases of Foxhall Village after the original developers, Marcus Worthington & Co, went into administration in 2019, leading to work on the development stalling.
Blackpool Council says it is committed to ensuring the remainder of the west site (land either side of Blundell Street) of Foxhall Village is built to provide the new homes as originally planned before.
The council is working with Great Places, under an exclusivity agreement, to enable solutions to be found to the complexities of delivering the development.
While the council has yet to make a decision on the delivery approach, it is hoped that this will lead to a new agreement between the council and Great Places to complete the development on the West site.
Commenting on the submission of the new planning application for the West site development Helen Spencer, executive director of Growth at Great Places, said: “Great Places Housing Association already owns 79 homes at Foxhall Village and, alongside the council, is committed to ensuring the long-term success of Foxhall Village as a thriving local community.
“Our proposals would not only secure the completion of the West site, if fully approved, but also provide an additional 67 much-needed affordable homes in the local area.
“As a long-term owner and investor in Foxhall Village, we continue to seek solutions to deliver what is a complex and difficult site but of key importance to the town.
“The complexities of getting the project to this stage have been extremely challenging and we would like to acknowledge the support of the council and our consultants in developing these proposals to complete the final phase of this landmark development.”
