The first ever Healthy Homes, Healthy Places week will run this week from 30 September to 4 October 2024.
The initiative was launched by Gavin Smart and Kate Henderson on the Health in Housing theatre, in partnership with Aico, at the Housing Community Summit earlier this month.
The week has been created to highlight the impact of home on health and wellbeing – providing an opportunity to examine the importance of managing and maintaining healthy homes, sharing good practice, the latest innovations and to showcase how investment in homes can maximise the benefits for tenants’ health and wellbeing.
Gavin Smart, chief executive at Chartered Institute of Housing, said: “The housing sector, and social housing, has always been about more than bricks and mortar; recognising the homes we provide are key building blocks for health and wellbeing,
“Healthy homes, healthy places week is a fantastic opportunity to promote the importance of managing and maintaining healthy homes, showcasing the latest innovations, good practice and partnership working in the sector.
“I’m looking forward to the week of events, and seeing good practice shared across the sector by people who are passionate about working together to show the positive impact that good quality, safe homes and places have on health and wellbeing.”
Alex Garmston, marketing manager at Aico, provided further comment. He said: “We are delighted to support Healthy Homes Healthy Places week.
“We know the housing sector are keen to adopt and support the latest technological advances to manage and maintain healthy homes.
“I look forward to seeing the stories and information sharing on social media and across the week of events to inspire more innovation in this vital area of managing and maintaining healthy homes.“
