A joint venture between the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) and housing associations in the city region is all set to deliver 174 new homes.
Hive Homes, founded in 2018, is developing two sites in Bury and in Radcliffe.
At Seedfield in Bury, the company will build 84 three- and four-bedroom homes with a selection of properties under the “First Homes” scheme by Bury Council. The scheme prioritises first time buyers with a combined annual income of less than £80,000 per year.
The site, off Parkinson Street, has been given £20m investment, supported by £995,000 Brownfield Land Grant from the GMCA.
Alongside the new homes, Bury Council is to provide new changing and welfare facilities for Seedfield Juniors FC funded by Hive’s Section 106 Contribution, and Hive will also create a new car park for the club which has its pitches adjacent to the site.
Hive Homes will also build 90 three- and four-bedroom homes, a mix of mews, semi and detached, on School Street in Radcliffe; the former home of the demolished grammar school, with some First Homes and affordable homes amongst the number.
A total of £19m investment is supported by £895,000 Brownfield Land Grant from GMCA and Hive’s Section 106 contribution will support a number of local initiatives in the area.
Ed Milner, Hive Homes’ managing director, said: “We are delighted to be able to develop these fantastic sites and bring much-needed housing and facilities to these communities.
“Both are crying out for quality, new homes and we are looking forward to breathing new life into sites and provide people with the chance to get their foot on the property ladder.
“Hive Homes is building a real reputation as a partner of choice for local authorities across Greater Manchester as we are delighted to be working with Bury Council to bring new homes to the area.”
The new homes are expected to be completed in 2025.
The partners in the Hive Homes joint venture are the GMCA, Irwell Valley Homes, Onward Homes, Mosscare St Vincent’s, Great Places Housing Group, One Manchester, Salix Homes, Wythenshawe Community Housing Group, Trafford Housing Trust, Southway Housing Trust, and Bolton at Home.
