Immingham families packed Homestead Park for free activities including a bouncy castle, arts and crafts and a Gruffalo-themed reading corner.
The summer fun day, held during the school holidays, saw local organisations come together to mark Love Parks Week, a national campaign run by Keep Britain Tidy celebrating the role of parks and green spaces in bringing communities together.
Niki Brown, a resident of Immingham, said: “There’s not much for children to do in Immingham – especially younger children, so it’s really nice to have something fun to enjoy locally. The bouncy castle in particular has been amazing!”
The event, organised by North East Lincolnshire Council, brought together Lincolnshire Housing Partnership (LHP), Lincs Inspire, Immingham Town Council, Acorn Youth and One Voice, each offering activities and information about services available in the area.
LHP ran a stall throughout the day, with colleagues on hand to share information about the organisation’s services and answer questions from customers and other residents. The housing association also hosted an arts and crafts station with an environmental and sustainability theme, alongside a bouncy castle for children.
Visitors could also enjoy a reading corner hosted by Lincs Inspire, where a reading of The Gruffalo was accompanied by a surprise appearance from the Gruffalo himself.
Claire Newton, from Lincs Inspire Libraries, said: “Events like this are a fantastic way for us to connect with the local community and share the joy of reading with children and families. As a free community resource, it’s important that we reach as many people as possible and encourage a love of reading. It’s been a great day, showcasing the value of partnership working whilst giving local families the chance to have fun and enjoy the summer.”
Emily McKenna, corporate head of risk and assurance at LHP, said: “It was wonderful to see so many local organisations and families coming together to enjoy the event. Today has really highlighted how important our parks and green spaces are in bringing communities together and creating opportunities for people to connect.”
Elaine Norton, project manager for One Voice, said: “It’s great to be involved in community events like this, which give families the opportunity to come together and enjoy accessible activities close to home during the school holidays. Love Parks Week is a brilliant chance to celebrate the fantastic parks and green spaces we have across North East Lincolnshire.”
