Myos House, Ongo’s extra care dementia scheme, has been announced as a finalist in the ‘Residential Project of the Year’ category at The Greater Lincolnshire Construction and Property Awards 2022.
The annual event is organised by the Lincolnshire Chamber of Commerce and brings together businesses with vision, innovation, and support for industry in Lincolnshire.
Myos House, located on Warwick Road in Scunthorpe, cost in the region of £4.4m, and is made up of 25 two-bedroom apartments and specially designed communal spaces.
The building complies with the ‘Housing our Ageing Population Panel for Innovation’ (HAPPI) principles and has been created to allow those living with dementia to stay with their families for as long as possible.
This will avoid the unsettling move to residential care, Ongo says.
Georgie McGuire, development project manager at Ongo, said: “We’re all very excited that Myos House has been shortlisted at such fantastic local awards.
“The number of those living with dementia in the UK is expected to increase to one million by 2025.
“This shows the importance of places like Myos House, and we are so proud to see the difference it makes to residents and their families every day.
“We are looking forward to the awards and are so pleased this development is being recognised and celebrated.”
Charlotte Watson, head of PR, Marketing, Comms, and Policy at Lincolnshire Chamber of Commerce, said: “Judging at any point is a difficult job because every business, in their own right, deserves the accolade and recognition.
“This year has been pretty special as we have seen a record number of applications since the awards began in 2017 making it an even tougher job for the judges.
“After what can only be described as a rollercoaster 18 months it is so refreshing to see the calibre of applications all which have been phenomenal, and we are looking forward to showcasing some of them next year.”
