Housing association Optivo held a special ceremony to officially name its new development in Purley on Wednesday (31 August).
A total of 49 affordable homes were completed earlier this year at Foxley Lane, Purley. They include a mixture of one, two and three bedroom apartments.
The building is named David Clifford Court in memory of Optivo board member David Clifford, who passed away two years ago.
Optivo chief executive Paul Hackett CBE and David’s wife Judie unveiled a plaque in his memory at an event where attendees included residents now living in the building, contractors and local ward councillor Simon Brew.
David Clifford Court is situated a short walk from Purley’s high street with its choice of shops, bars, cafés and restaurants. Features include bicycle parking on site and a communal garden with children’s play equipment.
Paul Hackett CBE, chief executive at Optivo, said: “We’re proud to have delivered these much needed homes to Croydon, a town where we’ve over 4,000 homes already.
“This development has proven extremely popular and all the homes, which are London Affordable Rent, are now occupied.
“David’s ambition for Optivo was to provide homes where our residents feel safe, secure and happy.
“I hope naming this building in David’s memory goes some way to remembering the huge difference he made to Optivo.”
London Affordable Rent is a ‘genuinely affordable’ rent which is at less than 50% of market rent.
Optivo worked in partnership with contractor Guildmore and employer’s agent Pellings on the homes at Foxley Lane.
The building is less than a mile from Purley Train Station which has direct links to London Victoria and London Bridge. Meanwhile, construction continues on Optivo’s nearby Banstead Road development where 106 affordable homes are being built.
Situated off the Purley Cross, the £40m development will include a mix of one, two and three bedroom apartments. Optivo will deliver the homes in phase one of the ambitious “Mosaic Place” regeneration project.
Mosaic Place will see the redevelopment of two separate sites in Purley. It will provide 3,452 sqm state of the art community and worship centre, retail space and 220 new homes.
