The chief executive of Bexley Community Housing Association (BECHA) has passed away, it has been reported, leaving the sector in a state of shock.
Sue Daniels, who served as the CEO of BECHA and as chair of Glebe Housing Association, died suddenly on 14 April.
Respects have been paid from across the sector and beyond.
The G320 – which represents small London housing associations and of which Daniles was a member of the executive committee – said: “Our condolences go out to Sue’s family, friends, and colleagues at this sad time.
“Sue was a wonderful colleague and great friend to many in the sector and will be sadly missed.”
Before joining BECHA, Daniels had held senior roles at a variety of organisations including Wandle Housing Association, First Wessex (Vivid), and the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.
Commenting on the news, Linda Wallace, chief executive of CDS Co-operatives, said: “Sue was irrepressible, irreverent, and joyous, with a kind heart and a passion for really getting things done.
“She had no time for time wasting, and I know that every minute she had with people who loved, admired, and respected her will have counted.
“She was one of those rare people who was entirely true to themselves, and she made me laugh out loud – which is what I will carry.
“Love and courage to her family and friends.”
Patrick Harkness, vice-chair of Bron Afon Community Housing, said: “This is really sad. Sue was a great colleague in a variety of scenarios with huge integrity and knowledge. Condolences to all who knew her.”
BECHA chair Clive Astall said Daniels was a “driving force” behind the landlord’s first new-build development and the relocation of its office to Bexley High Street in London.
Daniels also served as chair of Glebe Housing Association. A statement issued on behalf of the organisation read: “Sue was a stalwart of the social housing sector, respected and highly regarded by her peers.
“She always advocated for the role and importance of the smaller housing providers within the wider social housing sector.
“Aside from her many roles in housing, Sue was a daughter, a mother, and a wife.
“Sue will be remembered by us as a tour de force, a wonderful, witty, kind, and generous woman. We shall miss her.
“Rest in peace, Sue.”
