Coastal Housing Group and RHA Wales Group have officially merged to form a new registered social landlord, Beacon Cymru Group (BCG).
The newly merged organisation owns and manages 9,000 homes across South Wales. The name was chosen to reflect the merger organisations’ legacies – uniting the Welsh valleys and coastline – as well as signalling its intent and ambitions.
Beacons have historically been a source of connection, the organisation explains, and the new name is said to embody the organisation’s commitment to “delivering change you can see in communities” across South Wales.
Debbie Green, chief executive of Coastal and chief executive designate of BCG, said “This merger is a significant milestone, not only for our organisations but for the communities we serve. By combining our strengths, we can deliver on our shared mission to provide secure, sustainable, and affordable homes for generations to come.”
Luke Takeuchi, chief executive of RHA and deputy chief executive designate of BCG, added: “Beacon Cymru Group represents a bold new chapter in our journey to create thriving communities. Together, we will work tirelessly to ensure our residents experience high quality services and even greater value for money, while driving meaningful change across South Wales.”
Law firm Devonshires represented both Coastal and RHA Wales on the merger, providing advice on all aspects of the partnership including structuring and lenders’ consents.
Gemma Bell, partner at Devonshires, said: “We are proud to have played a role in helping to facilitate this important partnership and look forward to seeing the positive impact this will have on the communities Beacon Cymru Group will serve.”
The merged organisation went live on 2 January 2025.
