Real has been appointed by Southern Housing Group on a £15m contract to build 74 affordable and shared ownership homes in West Sussex.
The project in Shoreham-by-Sea will see construction and regeneration specialist Real replace an existing low-rise building with new affordable homes in a low-carbon, six-storey development.
The Mannings development will include carbon-saving measures such as air source heat pumps, PV panels and heat recovery ventilation.
It will consist of 60 shared ownership and 14 affordable rent homes, with completion due in the summer of 2023.
Oliver Boundy, group director, Development and Assets at Southern Housing Group, said: “The twin challenges of providing desirable affordable housing while ensuring their construction has exacting environmental credentials means it’s vitally important for Southern Housing Group to partner with specialists that can deliver on both fronts.
“We’ve worked really hard with residents to get our plans for the regeneration of The Mannings into great shape and with Real on board we look forward to transforming the estate into a place the local community can be proud of.”
Paul Nicholls, chief executive at Real, said: “We are thrilled Southern Housing Group has chosen our company to build these 74 sustainable, affordable homes.
“Choosing to work with Real is a great endorsement for us as a business and the excellent team we have, who are committed to delivering a brilliant scheme.
“We know what it takes to work successfully on tight, urban sites and have a rigorous plan in place to work with Southern Housing Group and the local community throughout the construction of these much-needed affordable homes in Shoreham-by-Sea.”
The Mannings success is latest in a series of new projects for newly established Real across its markets of London, the South East and South West.
These include the £10m redevelopment of 46 retirement homes at Hallwood House in Medway, and a £117m, 505-home estate regeneration project with The London Borough of Ealing at High Lane in Hanwell.
The contractor and developer has also recently won a place on the £250m South East Consortium framework to build affordable homes and other projects for housing associations and local authorities over the next three years.
