The Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) has announced the permanent appointment of Rachael Williamson as director of policy, communications and external affairs.
The appointment follows her successful tenure in the role on an interim basis since November 2024.
Williamson joined CIH in 2021 as head of policy and external affairs, and is credited with playing a key role in shaping the organisation’s influencing strategy, strengthening its public profile, and deepening member and stakeholder engagement.
This has included leading CIH’s recent engagement on the 2024 general election, its advocacy for the 2025 Spending Review, and the successful launch of the 2025 UK Housing Review.
Williamson said: “I’m honoured to take on this role permanently and continue working with an exceptional team and dedicated colleagues across the sector. CIH’s mission – to support housing professionals to create a future in which everyone has a place to call home – is one I’m deeply passionate about.
“At a time of both challenge and opportunity for housing, I’m excited to help drive forward our policy, communications and engagement work to influence the decisions that shape our sector and champion the vital role of the housing profession.”
Gavin Smart, chief executive of the CIH, added: “Rachael has brought strategic vision, energy, and a collaborative spirit to her interim role, and I’m delighted to confirm her permanent appointment. Her deep understanding of housing policy, clarity of purpose, and commitment to the profession have already made a real impact.
“I look forward to continuing to work with her as we champion housing professionals and raise the voice of housing at this critical time for our sector.”
Williamson will continue to lead CIH’s UK-wide policy, external affairs and communications activity.
