Construction firm Lindum is building 38 new “affordable” homes in Market Harborough, Leicestershire, for Platform Housing Group (PHG).
Work has started on the homes on a site at Naseby Square, following the granting of planing permission by Harborough District Council. The development will feature a mix of homes for rent and shared ownership.
Representatives from the three organisations attended the site to mark the start of the work, and see how the plans will be brought to life.
PHG’s chief operations officer, Marion Duffy said: “It’s fantastic to see work starting on this site and we are grateful to both Harborough District Council and Lindum Group for their work in getting us to this important stage.
“The plans represent the opportunity to deliver affordable housing for the area that will go long way to helping people get the foundations that come from having a place to call home.”
The housing association says it spent considerable time communicating with residents in the build up to demolition ahead of the construction phase, to ensure the project “delivers for the community”.
Lisa Fairlie, Platform’s director of operations said: “Once planning was approved by the council, working with the residents has been key in the progress of this site. There was an event for them to meet the contractor, see the timescale and plans, and address concerns over the impact of work. We have also maintained regular contact through written communications and our local neighbourhood officers on the ground.”
Darren King, managing director of Lindum Peterborough, added: “We are pleased to be starting work at Naseby Square, and look forward to providing the people of Market Harborough with good quality, family homes in the near future.
“There has been a lot of work involved in getting to this point and we appreciate the impact the scheme has had, and continues to have, on people who live nearby. We will continue to engage with residents as work progresses over the coming months and welcome any questions they may have.”
The homes are due to be ready in the Spring of 2025.
