A large skip and three van loads of household waste and unwanted items were responsibly removed from Kestrel Lane in Wellingborough during an initiative from Northants-based housing association, Greatwell Homes, making a positive contribution to the neighbourhood.
The area has historically been a hot-spot for fly-tipping and this was raised at a residents meeting in November last year, with Greatwell Homes, North Northamptonshire Council, Welly Wombles and local residents in attendance.
All residents in the area were then encouraged to use the skip for any unwanted items and rubbish outside on 13 January 2026 for them to be disposed of by the housing association’s estates, housing and community safety teams.
Kimberely Barnes, a community safety officer at Greatwell Homes, said: “As a result of the clear-up day, Kestrel Lane was left clean, tidy and more presentable which has created a safer and more pleasant environment for all residents.
“By working together and taking pride in our surroundings, we can all help keep the environment in which we live safe, clean and welcoming. Small actions such as disposing of waste responsibly and reporting fly-tipping can make a big difference.
“Thank you to everyone who continues to play their part in caring for our community and helping to create a better place for all residents.”
Fly-tipping is illegal and may result in enforcement action, including a fine of £1,000 and potential legal action. Where appropriate, incidents may be investigated by Greatwell Homes’ Community Safety Team and evidence such as CCTV may be used to identify those responsible.
