Work has started on the redevelopment of Healy Place in Devonport, Plymouth, after LiveWest signed a contract with Lovell Partnerships.
The housing association has begun construction after securing planning approval and completing the relocation of all residents from the existing scheme.
The project will replace the former Healy Place homes with 33 new social rented homes, built to modern, energy-efficient standards.
The scheme has secured funding support from Homes England and Plymouth City Council, and forms part of LiveWest’s long-term commitment to investing in Plymouth and supporting the ongoing renewal of Devonport.
The redevelopment follows several years of planning, consultation and engagement with residents and stakeholders. LiveWest said it worked closely with residents throughout the decant process, supporting households to find alternative homes before work could begin on site.
Michael Hourican, head of regeneration at LiveWest, said: “Reaching this point is a significant milestone for Healy Place and the wider Devonport community. We recognise that regeneration projects can be challenging and would like to thank all residents for their patience and cooperation throughout the process.
“With all residents now successfully rehoused, we are delighted to be moving into the construction phase. Working alongside Lovell, we will create high-quality, affordable homes that meet modern standards and support our long-term commitment to Plymouth.”
Ross Field, regional managing director at Lovell, said: “We are delighted to be expanding our presence in the city, working in partnership with LiveWest on this transformative regeneration project.
“Healy Place is an exciting development and together we will be delivering high-quality and energy efficient affordable homes with long lasting social and environmental benefits.”
Councillor Matt Smith, cabinet member for housing at Plymouth City Council, said: “The start on site milestone for any project is an exciting one but here, where the regeneration for the area is so significant, it really is momentous.
“These energy-efficient, low carbon homes are most welcome and I’d like to thank LiveWest for their ongoing support both here in Devonport and across the city.”
Shahi Islam, director of affordable housing grants at Homes England, added: “The start on site of the new social rent homes in Devonport is an exciting milestone that demonstrates the value of partnership working in meeting local housing needs.
“Through strong partnership working with housing providers like LiveWest, we are delivering high-quality affordable homes at pace, helping more people access safe, secure and affordable housing.”
