A £2.35m supported living development providing 16 homes has opened in Swaffham, Norfolk, for people with care and support needs.
Golden Court comprises 12 apartments and four bungalows, designed to allow residents to live independently while remaining part of their local community. The scheme was funded by Norfolk County Council as part of its wider programme to expand specialist supported living provision across the county.
The development was delivered through a partnership between Golden Lane Housing, Norfolk County Council, Avenues Group, HBV Group and ATEL Design and Build. Golden Lane Housing will provide the homes, while Avenues Group will deliver specialist support to residents.
Golden Court follows Makers Close in Norwich, which opened earlier this year and provides 12 apartments and six bungalows for people with learning disabilities, physical disabilities and autistic people.
Emily Collinson, director of development and growth at Golden Lane Housing, said: “Today is about celebrating much more than the completion of a new building. It is about celebrating what these homes will make possible for the people who live here.
“Everyone deserves to have a home that feels like their own – a place where they feel safe, have choice and control, and can be part of their community. For some of the people moving into Golden Court, this will be their first opportunity to experience that independence.
“We are incredibly proud to have worked alongside Norfolk County Council, Avenues, HBV Group and ATEL Design and Build to turn this vision into reality. Golden Court is another fantastic example of what can be achieved when partners share a commitment to creating high-quality, inclusive homes that enable people to live the lives they choose.”
Councillor Scott Hussey, Norfolk County Council’s cabinet member for adult social care and public health, said: “Golden Court is the latest example of our commitment to ensuring that residents are able to maintain their independence, while also receiving the best possible support.
“Residents who move into these homes will have opportunities to learn new skills, make new friends, and become part of a community.”
Jo Land, chief executive at Avenues Group, said: “At Avenues, we believe that everyone should have the opportunity to live a life of their choosing, with the right support to achieve their goals, build relationships and be part of their local community. Golden Court is a wonderful example of what can be achieved when organisations come together around a shared ambition to create high-quality housing and support that puts people first. We are delighted to be working in such a positive collaboration with Golden Lane Housing, Norfolk County Council, HBV Group and ATEL Design and Build.
“Together, we are creating opportunities for people to enjoy greater independence, choice and control, and to have a place they can truly call home. Importantly, developments such as Golden Court also create rewarding employment opportunities for local people, enabling us to build skilled and committed teams who support people to live fulfilling lives while contributing to the local economy and community.”
