The shortlist and a new venue has been announced for next month’s Northern Housing Awards, so check out who is competing for a prize
Work is well under way behind the scenes to prepare the stage – literally and metaphorically – for next month’s Northern Housing Awards.
A key milestone is the recent release of the shortlist of finalists. As ever, the calibre of candidates has proved exceptional – the judging panel were certainly put through their paces, but they’re used to that.
The Northern Housing Awards are taking place on the evening of Thursday, 21 May in Manchester city centre. It’s critical to note that this year the event is taking place in a new venue: The Kimpton Clocktower Hotel on Oxford Road.
On the night, following a drinks reception and a slap-up gala dinner, the winners will be revealed during a glittering awards ceremony, hosted by comedian and actor Justin Moorhouse.
Guests can take inspiration from the after dinner speech, when former athlete turned motivational speaker, Derek Redmond will take to the podium.
One of the country’s top athletes in the 80s and 90s, the World and European relay champion twice broke the 400m record. The 1992 Barcelona Olympics saw the end of his athletics career, however, but he went out with grit and determination in a scene that became an inspirational moment in Olympics history.
Representing his country as an individual runner, he was among the favourites in the 400m semi-final race. However at the 250m mark he tore his hamstring. Despite the injury, he hobbled to the finish line with the help of his father – cheered on by the crowd.
Redmond was determined that his injury would not keep him down, nor has it. He has since played basketball for England and played rugby 7s. And, of course, he was forged an enviable reputation as an inspirational speaker.
The charity partner for the evening is KidsCan Children’s Cancer Research. The organisation funds pioneering research into safer and more effective treatments, with its mission to not only help children survive – but to thrive.
On that note, let’s introduce the shortlist for the Northern Housing Awards 2026…
